This colorized image of IBWO feeding sign taken by Arthur Allen illustrates just how unlike the Singer Tract Florida ivorybill habitat could be.

Cypress in deeper-water sloughs/strands was of course the exception, reaching considerable heights and diameters in such situations. It is no accident that cypress figures prominently in historical accounts of the ivory-bill from Florida.

Thanks Mark. For those of us who are in the west and not as familiar with native vegetation in that area can someone kindly identify the species of trees that the nest cavities are in for these photos? Thanks

Don

For some reason, copying and pasting the link didn't work completely, and the link goes to a more general search page. The Florida image I'm talking about is the 14th on the page. I'm not 100% sure it's from Florida, but I believe so, and it certainly looks like it. Searching the site for "Arthur Allen" will produce one other photo that appears to be of a Florida hammock.

The nest tree photos are from the Singer Tract, and if I remember correctly the tree is a maple.
